Dearborn Public Schools is again hosting a free community COVID testing site at Edsel Ford High School on Saturday and is inviting more students to receive a COVID vaccine on Friday.
Residents can receive a free COVID rapid test on Saturday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is being run by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
Anyone in the area interested in receiving a COVID test is encouraged to use the site, especially those people who do not have symptoms. Please note, a negative COVID test does not lessen any quarantine requirements. Those who are considered a close contact for someone with COVID will need to quarantine according to the guidelines provided by their health department.
The district is also inviting students 16 and 17 year olds in the community to sign up for a Pfizer vaccination at a traveling clinic on Friday, April 30 at Edsel Ford High School. Appointments are available from 8 am. until 2:40 p.m. by following this appointment link. The clinic is being hosted by Henry Ford Health System. Dearborn Public Schools worked with Henry Ford Health to arrange the clinic, and the site still has open slots for Friday. The second dose will be administered on May 21 at the school. Students younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
“We know our students do not live in a vacuum. COVID is an issue facing the entire world, and the disease has hit Dearborn especially hard,” said Superintendent Glenn Maleyko. “We are glad to do our part to help control COVID’s spread by offering our facilities for testing and vaccinations.”
At the Saturday, May 1 screening, rapid tests will be provided. Appointments are requested and will result in faster service, but walk-ins are also accepted. Face masks must be properly worn while on school property.
Edsel Ford High School is at 20601 Rotunda Dr., Dearborn, MI. Testing will be conducted outdoors. Those coming for testing should enter the student parking lot at the stoplight on Rotunda.
To register and schedule a test appointment, visit http://honumg.info/EdselFordHS. The online form will also collect contact information and other details that will be needed before the testing. Any one who receives a positive result on the rapid test, will be invited back for a more accurate PCR test.
