On June 7th, all students will be going to Levagood Park in Dearborn. This will be a fun-filled day where students can swim and play different games. Busses and lunch will be provided, however parents and families are welcome to meet us at the park.
Please be sure to complete and return your permission slip to your teacher.
Setting the expectation for reading EVERYDAY throughout the summer needs to be established in order to reduce summer learning loss. Making regular visits to the public library can be both FUN and BENEFICIAL.
Esper Library is located at 12929 Warren Ave, Dearborn. It is FREE to join and to borrow books. Most libraries also have summer programs that students can join. Consider visiting the library a few times a month or even weekly!
Here are some reading lists that are provided by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association, that students may enjoy reading:
Congratulations Amal Hamade from Mrs. Gartha’s 5th grade and Angela Hassoun from Miss. Mosed’s 4th grade! The girls won the Meemic Masterpiece Art Contest! They were 2 out of 50 total winners from 4 different states!
We hope you all had a great weekend. Last week marked the start of the NWEA testing window. This is the last round of testing for the year for grades Kindergarten through 5th. We are confident that all our students are striving to meet their goals and end the year with success.
As we approach the end of the school year, students reflecting on their learning and hard work is a great idea. Thinking about the Summer break and making resolutions as well as establishing routines of reading and continued practice are beneficial to minimizing Summer learning loss.
Last week Oakman welcomed this year’s Fordson seniors and cheered them with a huge congratulatory clap out.
Happy Mother’s Day to all our Oakman mothers. We hope you enjoyed your special day.
This week, 3rd and 4th grade will begin their ELA MSTEP testing. We wish them all the best of luck. This week the NWEA Spring testing window also opens. This is the final round of NWEA testing for the year. Classroom teachers will let students know when they will be testing.
Please join us to review the two elementary language arts (reading and writing) programs that will be piloted next year:
Benchmark (Benchmark Learning)
Dearborn Public Schools will be piloting each of these highly rated programs in grades kindergarten – 5th grade for the 2019 – 2020 school year. Teachers selected for the pilot will use the same program for the entire year. All teachers will receive training. A resource subcommittee reviewed six programs and rated each through a rigorous process designed to identify the most relevant instructional resources.
At the end of the pilot period it is anticipated that an elementary language arts program will be recommended for adoption for the 20-21 school year for all elementary classrooms.
We hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weather this week. This week marks the beginning of the month of Ramadan. We wish you all a peaceful month. We encourage all students who plan to fast to eat healthy and balanced meals before sunrise so you are ready for full day of learning.
