Oakman Parent Meeting

Thank you to all the parents who joined our meeting on Thursday morning. We had a great session where parents were put to the challenge with a STEM activity. We also had LAHC present on the importance of making healthy food choices and how to teach our students to do that.

Important Dates

Dear Parents:

We would like to remind you of the following dates:

Saturday, March 9th ( 2 a.m.) Daylight Saving Time Begins( BE SURE TO SET YOUR CLOCKS FORWARD ONE HOUR).

Wednesday, March 13th ( Late Start). School begins one hour later. Students can come to school to have breakfast at 9:00 a.m. Classes begin at 9:35 a.m. Please do not send your students before 9:00 a.m.

Please take a minute to mark these dates on your calendar.

Maria Dismondy

We will be having the Author Maria Dismondy visit Oakman during March is Reading Month.

She will be coming on Wednesday, March 13th, 2019. She will be having a book signing! 

Dismondy is a children’s book author from Michigan! She’s written Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun, and The Juice Box Bully. She’s had 8 award-winning books. Each one of her books has an empowering message. We are excited to have her come to Oakman!

Monday’s Word of the Day…FRIGID. Frigid means very cold in temperature. What do you do when it’s frigid outside? 

Tuesday’s Did you know? The average American generates more than four pounds of garbage each day. 

Wednesday’s Thought of the Day: If we give happiness to others we will end up happy. 

Thursday’s Act of Kindness: goes to Samir Houmani from Miss. Mosed’s class. Samir helped a friend get over her fear of getting on the elevator by joining her. 

Friday’s Joke of the Day: Why did the girl bring lipstick to school? She had a make-up exam!

Oakman Chess Team

This week, our chess team competed against Miller Elementary. We are proud of the problem solving skills and sportsmanship that they displayed. Congratulations to Oakman’s chess team on a great WIN!

Can you believe that February is almost over? As we prepare for March, we are looking forward to READING MONTH. This year our theme will be OCEANS! You may have noticed that some of the classroom doors are getting a makeover in preparation for March is Reading Month. Stay tuned for more information about reading events, contests and fun!

Thursday’s Act of Kindness…Ali Assaf from Miss. Hoffman’s class helped his classmate in the hallway by carrying his books. Also, Beyan Ashaweh and Reham Albadani from Mrs. Mehrhof’s class made a craft for a friend.

Friday’s Jokes of the day: Why did the teacher wear sunglasses? His class was so bright! Why did the computer teacher keep a spider in her classroom? Because it was so good at making websites.
